Here we are but straying pilgrims

That was always one of my favorite hymns as a kid. Yonder over the rolling river.

We can’t just sit in the heat all summer; we are on our way there and back again much of the off-season. We spend our time being or welcoming pilgrims. So it’s a great time to remember that we already were.

From the Iona community:

Pray for all pilgrims and seekers
and companions on the way;
for all travellers.
Christ, may I walk together with you,
in solidarity with the poor and
with all of God’s creation.

Been listening to Van Morrison’s Vleedon Fleece this week like there might not be any other music in the world. Here’s a line for a week of Lectureship pilgrim living:

We’re goin’ out in the country
to get down to the real soul
I mean the real soul, people,
talkin’ bout the real soul people
We’re goin’ out in the country,
get down to the real soul
We’re gettin’ out to the west coast,
Shining our light into the days of bloomin’ wonder

Eat your heart out, Katy Perry.
