What wonder, what transport

They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” – Acts 1:11

I’ve often wondered about this passage. Does he return in the same bodily form? By the same means? I thought of it today, as a cluster of white balloons disappeared in the sky beneath a beautiful display of flowers honoring our departed coworker. Perhaps Jesus will return as he left, surrounded by his beloved community, arms outstretched, eager to receive him back, weary of wondering.

May we hold to God and, in Christ, to one another, in the meantime.

Members of Landscaping, Housekeeping, and FM&P staff gather around a memorial following a time of prayer.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of Juan Cueto Hernandez, who passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 10, while playing soccer with friends and coworkers on lunch break. He served on the Landscaping staff for over twenty years. His work kept this place beautiful and safe. Many have glowingly described his friendship and character over the last few days, and while his death was tragic, many have shared that he died doing what he loved with people he loved. I have been so blessed to watch the Facilities Mangagement & Planning staff respond to this loss with great love for Juan and for one another.
